Fish the impressively huge Lake Ontario with Angling International

For some anglers, ourselves included, the call of big waters is too much to ignore. That was the idea with the Extreme Carp Show when it visited Lake Ontario, situated in Up State New York.

For UK anglers a water of 100 acres may be considered to be big. In Europe 2000 or so acres would be considered sizeable, but we like to take things a lttle further. Lake Ontario is 193 miles long and 53 miles wide. That's 4,800,000 acres and to put it into a little more perspective, nearly the size of Wales at 7500 square miles.

Despite it's size the carp fishing can be absolutely blistering with loads of commons averaging upper 20s to mid 30 lbs. Sure there are bigger fish present, but it is the action, the incredible scenery, and the sheer size of the water that make Ontario and the Seaway Trail so special.

Carp are of course our main target, but the salmon and lake trout fishing is very impressive as a break from the norm, and on a good day it's like big game fishing in the sea.

Virtually nothing is known about the lake for carp fishig as it is not really practised there, but Rob Hughes has ben visiting the water for a few years and is one of the pioneers of carp fishing there. Rarely does he get it wrong as the TV series shows, and he is prepared to pass on his information to you.

We suggest that you fish Ontario and the St Lawrence as a combined package spending a few days on the river before drive theleisurely two hours along teh sceniv Seaway Trail to Oswego city, a bustling place with excellent night life and bar culture. Fishing around the harbour and the various bays produces good fish and all of your tackle and bait can be provided for you. Accommodation wise we wil point you in the right direction, but all along the seaway trail from Massena to Oswego there are plenty of guest houses and hotels where you will receive a warm welcome and hot fishing.

Ideal for a touring holiday with the family, this option is something different from the norm where the family will be kept amused and you will find some great sport.
